EMDR is an integrated, client-centered approach to psychotherapy that focuses on the brain’s information processing system and disturbs the memory of experiences that are not caused by organic damage. EMDR emphasizes the experience of having a role in the clinical context, as well as those who need to lead the counselor to a healthier mental state. As an empirically supported treatment, EMDR reviews its history, development, and research. After elaborating an adaptive information processing model, a case-by-case illustration of EMDR is used to illustrate case-by-case and eight-stage EMDR treatment. This method is used to process early memories that build pathology and trigger the current dysfunction and provide a template for the appropriate behavior in the future, including the knowledge and behavior needed to overcome skills and / or developmental deficits. The benefits of an integrated EMDR and family system perspective are that it provides the most comprehensive treatment.
