Objective To observe the changes of HbA1c and islet function in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and essential hypertension (EH). Methods HbA1c, glucose, insulin and C-peptide in 137 CHD patients, 152 EH patients and 50 healthy controls were detected after fasting and 2h after oral administration. Results HbAlc, fasting and 2h blood sugar, insulin and C-peptide in CHD patients and EH patients were significantly higher than those in healthy controls (P <0.01). Conclusions HbAlc, insulin resistance (IR), hyperinsulinemia (HI) and high C-peptide levels in patients with CHD and EH may be the core of the pathogenesis of a variety of metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases.
