在上世纪七十年代,孟少农提出“严试验,缓定型”的产品开发,设计方针。这是根据中国汽车工业还处于初创时期,仅处在“文革”动乱年代,而工厂的技术人员极为缺乏产品设计经验的实际情况下提出的。这是用严格反复的试验,找出新品毛病,缺陷,以便一轮又一轮地攻关,克服经验不足,不断改进,待产品趋向成熟、有把握时,再组织定型和审定。当时的二汽、陕汽就是应用这种办法,最终开发出2.5t、3.5t、5t的轻、中、重越野汽车,以及一批民用载货汽车的合格产品,并为二汽和陕汽的进一步赶展,打下相当基础,这是一件很了不起的事情,也说明中国汽车工业是有能力搞产品开发工作。 今天,我们当然不能再这样的提法了,因为环境和企业的自身都起了很大变化。但这种敢于实践,尽心尽责地坚持自主开发的精神,却值得一代一代相传和发扬光大。 我们相信,中国汽车工业的产品开发一定会走出一条适合中国国情的新路子。

We believe that the product development of China’s auto industry will surely step out of a new path that suits China’s national conditions.
