Studies have shown that torsional perturbations can lead to significant increases in the maximum shear and bending moments in the components around the building. Previous studies have linked the torsional response to structural asymmetry (ie, the structure’s resistance center does not coincide with the center of mass). This paper investigates how the torsional acceleration of strong ground motions involving SH waves and Love waves causes the torsional response of symmetrical structures.
