穆哈辛·哈米德的《拉合尔茶馆的陌生人》描述“9·11”事件前后美国穆斯林的生活境遇和思想情感,出版以来受到文学评论界和普通读者的广泛关注。哈米德在其作品中突破对“9·11”事件本身的亲历式书写以及对个人心理创伤的描摹,以双重视角书写后“9·11”语境之下的个体创伤经历并积极建构文化创伤;从经济、文化等角度探寻“9·11”及其“反恐战争”等暴力行为得以发生的根源;积极言说文化创伤,倡导不同文化间的相互沟通、彼此理解,体现出作家以文学承载文化记忆、以创作参与对时局思考的社会责任感和历史使命感。
