20世纪初,在社会动荡的时代背景下,华夏大地涌现出了一批杰出的中医学家。在北京、上海等大城市,逐渐形成了名医荟萃的局面。萧龙友(1870~1960年)、施今墨(1881~1969年)、汪逢小编的话春(1882~1948年)、孔伯华(1884~1955年)四位名医即悬壶于自民国至新中国建国初期的北京。1934年,国民政府颁布中医条例,规定对所有中医实行考核立案,并任命医术精湛、负有盛名的这四位医家作为主考官,负责命题与阅卷,“京城四大名医”之称便由此产生。这四位医家不仅医术高超,而且对近百年来中医界风云变幻的历史进程产生了举足轻重的影响。他们的人生道路,恰是一部中医百年兴衰史的缩影。
