The international financial crisis in 2008 triggered the economic recession and low growth in many countries. The countries of South-Eastern Europe were also spared. Their financial conditions deteriorated. Their trade volume plummeted and the unemployment rate soared. Countries such as Romania, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia applied for additional funding from international financial organizations. The main reason for the profound crisis in Southeast European countries is the drastic reduction in the inflow of foreign capital, which used to be the major source of rapid economic growth. The decline in foreign investment is manifested in two aspects: a decrease in short-term securities investment, a direct foreign investment (requiring a longer period of capital involvement)
