美国作家弗.斯科特.菲茨杰拉德的代表作《了不起的盖茨比》对美国一战后以金钱和享乐为代表的爵士乐时代的社会现状做了真实细致地刻画。在这部小说中,菲茨杰拉德通过盖茨比的人生起落批判了美国社会浮华表面下的精神危机,并以此表现出了美国梦的破灭这一重要主题。为了深刻地表达这一主题,作者在小说中使用了象征手法。本文拟在此分析这首名作的主题及其颜色象征手法的运用在对主题表现上的不可或缺的作用。
The great work of American writer Scott Scott Fitzgerald, “The Great Gatsby,” truly and vividly portrays the social status quo of the jazz era in the United States after World War I with money and enjoyment as its representatives. In this novel, Fitzgerald has criticized the spiritual crisis under the glitzy face of American society through the rise and fall of Gatsby, and thus shows the important theme of the burst of the American dream. In order to express this theme deeply, the author uses the symbolism in the novel. This article intends to analyze the theme of this first masterpiece and its use of color symbols in the expression of the indispensable role on the theme.
