1999年11月19日在云南昆明举行的“中华航天科普展”上,我国首次向公众播放了一段长达2分钟的 UFO 录像。这段录像系1998年10月3日由昆明铁路局职工韩建伟摄于昆明西北部的筇的寺。当天,韩外出郊游,约11时50分,他突然看见天空中有一银白色发光体旋即这度减弱,消失于大气层中。3分钟后,当它再次出现时,韩用摄像机拍下不明飞行物运动、变化、消失的全过程,持续近2分钟。其向,物体色彩由银白色变亮至橙色,最为奇异的是,40余秒时,它突然一闪,形状由圆柱形变成平面呈菱形碟状体。录像在海内外引起震动。据介绍,公开这段录像的目的是告诉众人:UFO 的存在是一种客观现象,是人类应该探索的领域之一。
