2001年5月18日,中国首款S-MPV——普力马在海南马自达的总装车间里诞生了。前前后后的忙碌与辛劳这一刻在“一朝分娩”的欣喜中烟消云散。MPV尤其是S-MPV,以其自身的多功能、多用途等优势在欧美、日本等发达国家已经风靡多年,至今乃是方兴未艾。2001年的国内MPV市场虽然已有本田时韵、欧宝赛飞利、雷诺风景等几款车型,但除去上海通用的别克GL8以清晰的公务定位一枝独秀外,整块细分市场内一直都没能形成气候。
