从2000年下半年开始,中国宽带接入服务市场骤然升温。网通、长城宽带、广电、联通等宽带接入提供商纷纷斥臣资快速切入宽带市场,并同时在媒体上大造声势,宽带接入市场呈现出一派合纵连横的热闹景象。不知是基于何种因素考虑,中国电信在此期间一直保持低调。然而,蓝田市场研究公司2001年3月份进行的全国信息产业大型调查结果(ITDatabaseTM2001)显示,在单位宽带接入市场中,有68.7%的单位用户采取了ADSL非对称数字网络接入方式,在中国,ADSL宽带接入服务是由中国电信提供的。该结果表明,中国电信在单位宽带接入市场中稳居绝对优势。
