明代刘元卿在《应谐录》中记载了一位盲人过桥的故事。故事说一盲人过涸溪桥时,不小心从桥上滑下,只好两手紧紧抓着栏杆不放。此时盲人惊恐交加,害怕桥下是深渊。一行人见状说不要怕,脚下是实地。盲人惟恐不实,仍死死抓紧栏杆,直至筋疲力尽坠下,方知脚紧挨着大地。于是自我解嘲:早知脚下即实地,也不致自己苦自己许久了!
