The reason for the significant increase in the incidence of malignancies in a generally variable (late-onset) hypoglycaemia (CVH) patient has so far failed to explain. The function of LAK cells, which have very potent tumor-clearing activity in vivo, is impaired in CVH patients. This may be, at least in part, the cause of an increase in the incidence of tumors. The authors studied the mechanism of LAK cell function decline. In order to rule out this is due to a decrease of precursor of LAK cells, a limited dilution test based on the application of specific cytotoxic T-cell precursors was established.
