由于亚洲货币贬值,印度大米出口遭遇重重障碍,但1997/1998年度(3～4月)出口量仍将保持在约170万t。如果季风气候正常,印度1998/1999年度将能出口200万～220万t大米,其中包括45万t香米。 1997/1998年度世界大米的需求量为1780万t,而1996年为1940万t。业界人士预计1998年的需求由于厄尔尼诺的影响将增加约100万t。
Due to the Asian currency devaluation, India’s rice exports suffered many obstacles, but the volume of exports in 1997/98 (March-April) will remain at about 1.7 million tons. If the monsoon climate is normal, India will be able to export 2 million to 2.2 million tonnes of rice in 1998/99, including 450,000 t of rice. The world demand for rice in 1997/98 was 17.8 million tons, compared with 19.4 million tons in 1996. Industry insiders expect demand in 1998 to increase by about 1 million t due to the impact of El Niño.
