The wet strength and dry strength of polyvinylamine-based polymer newsprint paper were measured. Polyvinylamine (PVAm) can increase the strength of wood-based paper, making it suitable for wet-based printing of water-based inks. The early material of polyvinylamine, PNVF, increases dry strength but not wet strength. Polyvinylamine and its blends with early materials can greatly increase the paper’s wet strength and dry strength. When PNVF is converted to PVAm, the conversion is within the range of 56% to 100%, with minor differences in the wet strength of the finished paper. Newsprint paper treated with PVAm shows only a very small increase in wet strength at pH = 10 compared to less than 10. The paper dried at 120 ° C than at room temperature had only a small increase in wet strength.
