A recent report by UNEP and other organizations shows that 15 countries are listed as the key protected countries in the world’s only extremely important virgin forest. The 15 countries are Russia, Canada, Brazil, the United States, the Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire), China, Indonesia, Mexico, Peru, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bolivia, Venezuela, Colombia and India. This result is derived from satellite aerial photographs of the Earth’s existing forests, including untapped forests and abandoned and naturally regenerated forests.
