AIM: To study the effect of ebselen on anti-tumor activity ofadriamycin and anti-tumor activity of ebselen and the possiblemechanisms. METHODS: Eight tumor Cell lines, ie: HL-60,K5692, BGC, HCT, BIU, KB, E-J, and Bel 74O2 were culturedand inhibited by adriamycin alone or plus ebselen or ebselenalone. The cell growth, energy mewtabolism, membrane fluiditymeasured with fluorescence spectrophotometer were determined.Cell cycle progression of HL-60 was analyzed. RESULTS:Invitro, adriamycin inhibited the growth of eight tumor cell lines, namely K562, BGC, HCT, BIU, HL-60, KB, E-J, and Bel7402. Ebselen selectively increased the antitumor activity ofadriamycin in HL-60,K562, BGC, HCT, BIU, E-J, KB to
