清朝末年至民国初期,是中国社会大变革的时期,也是中国航空事业的孕育时期。从清朝咸丰五年(公元1855年)起,西方关于气球、飞艇和飞机等方面的航空知识陆续传到我国。美国莱特兄弟1903年发明飞机后不久,一些外国人曾携带飞机来华作飞行表演,激发了中国人对航空的兴趣。从此,一些有远见卓识的中国人,也相继投身于航空器的研究工作,出现了不少航空设计师和飞行家,为中国近代航空事业的发展作出了贡献。这些航空先驱者中,较具代表性的当数华蘅芳、谢缵泰、冯如、厉汝燕、谭根、杨仙逸……研制气球的数学家——华蘅芳
The end of the Qing Dynasty to the early Republic of China was a period of great social change in China and a breeding period for China’s aviation industry.
