洋务教育是在19世纪60—90年代,伴随着中国洋务运动而产生的具有改良主义性质的一次教育改革。它的直接目的是培养洋务人才,在中国兴办洋务,发展资本主义,富强国家。虽然这次教育改革最终以中日甲午战争的失败而宣告破产,但它却使西方文化迅速地洞贯中国,使封建保守势力无法再把西学阻止在国门之外。洋务教育在中国教育史上有着特定的历史地位和作用。
Westernization education was an educational reform with the reformist nature that accompanied the Westernization Movement in the 1960s and 1990s. Its direct purpose is to cultivate the talents of foreign affairs, establish Western affairs in China, and develop capitalism, a prosperous and powerful country. Although this educational reform ended in bankruptcy in the wake of the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895, it promptly convinced Western culture to penetrate China so that the feudal conservative forces could no longer stop Western learning from being outside its own country. Westernization education has a specific historical status and role in the history of Chinese education.
