交通工程 铁道部从3月1日起对湘黔线和贵昆线境内的电气化铁路实施大规模牵引供电设备改造。完成改造后,两大干线每列货车牵引定数将由现在的3500吨提高到3800吨,湘黔线实现开行货物列车22对,全线年运输能力将提高300万吨左右。 山东省公路建设驶入快车道。到1997年底,山东省公路里程已突破6万公里,其中高速公路和全封闭一级汽车专用路达833公里,二级以上路面里程居全国第一位。公路密度达到每百平方公里37.8公里。全省所有的县、市、乡镇和90.5％的行政村都通了公路。近5年来,全省先后建成了济南—青岛、泰安—化马湾、济南—德州高速公路;还建成了烟台—威海、青岛环胶州湾、东营—海港、济南—聊城等一级汽车专用公路;并架设了东明黄河大桥等一批公路桥梁。公路综合好路率达80.5％,1997年在(交通部组织的)全国干线公路养护与管理大检查中夺得了全国第二名。
