The initial solidification of the shell directly affects the surface quality of the slab. The influence of carbon (C) and other alloying elements in steel on the free-form deformation of solidified shell was studied by drop-dropping method. The results show that the higher the casting temperature, the closer the steel sample casts to the spherical crown because the bottom of the shell undergoes re-bending and remelting as the surface tension and the element content change. C is the main impact of the initial solidification deformation of the shell element, S, Mn; P and Si relatively small impact
