Traditional coring techniques are susceptible to changes in pressure and often cause fluid loss in the core during coring. Sponge coring technology wrapped around the core of a lipophilic special sponge material to prevent fluid loss, is conducive to experimental analysis. Over the past 20 years, sponge coring technology has been widely used in the field of oil and gas, but at the same time, the technology is also faced with the problems of sponge wrapping, fluid migration, drilling fluid contamination, core plugging and sponge damage. Baker Hughes recently introduced a new sponge liner coring system that incorporates a more adaptable lipophilic sponge with an inside diameter of 88.9 mm and a maximum core package length of 9.1 m.
