There is a necessary link between education and human development. The different forms of education in each society determine the type of manpower that the society expects to train in order to determine the type of economy to be established in the future. In this respect, there is a great deal of work on the primary education of British colonial authorities in its colonies as the foundation for human development and the role of this type of education in the effective (inefficient) cultivation of qualified personnel in all sectors of the colonial economy. However, to the best of the author’s knowledge, such writings have not mentioned the education policy implemented by Cameroon in the United Kingdom during its 45 years in power. This article analyzes the UK’s approach to primary education in Cameroon to fill this gap and question the motivation, significance and impact of the UK’s entire education policy for Cameroonians. The author uses the method of historical research mainly on the basis of the original data of Cameroon’s National Archives and the theoretical documents of decolonization.
