The rats in the experimental group were given a daily dose of 3.0 ml/100 g for 14 days. Rats in the control group were given equal amounts of distilled water. The two groups of rats were burned according to the method of Miles, and the area occupied 50% of the body surface area. At the 5th hour after the scald, myocardial tissue blocks were cut from the apex of all surviving animals. After fixation, sectioning, the abnormal ultrastructural changes of myocardial mitochondria in the control animals were observed under an electron microscope. The mitochondria are obviously swollen, the ridges are disorderly arranged, some ridges are broken or disappeared, and the myelin-like structure is abnormal. All mitochondria were damaged. However, the ultrastructure of myocardial mitochondria in experimental animals remained stable, and the structure of mitochondria was normal. The experimental results suggest that Ganoderma extract has a membrane-stabilizing effect on myocardial mitochondria and has a protective effect on “shock heart”.
