我们护士专修班共有同学55人,其中团员29人,年龄都在18至22岁,大多数出身于劳动阶级家庭,绝大多数是1956年初中毕业后,考试入学。当党中央发布关于勤工俭学半工半读的指示及团中央公布关于勤工俭学的决定后,在全国勤工俭学的影响下,同学纷纷的要求并想办法开展勤工俭学活动。多数同学要求降低原生活标准,减少津贴(8元);要求去医院给休养员洗衣服,要求取消衣服费等。后来,白凤仙等几名同学提出利用假日去医院作护理员工作,帮助拆洗被褥等倡议,当时班领导和团支部委员会研究了这个倡议,除在同学中醖釀外,并向校院党委做了汇报。我们实行勤工俭学的愿望很快地得到了校院领导和教员的重视和支持。学校吴副政委亲自给我们作了报告,团支部委员带头写大字报,响应半工半读自给自足的号召。
