香烟最早是南美印第安人用玉米叶卷制的,1842年前后传至法国和意大利,19世纪70年代传至中国,1902年上海最早出现卷烟。20世纪30年代是香烟肆虐的年代,美国每年生产80余亿支,其中相当一部分运销中国。美国及欧洲一些国家成年男性吸烟率有不少超过50%。据统计:美国1964年男性吸烟率为52%,加拿大为54%,印度1983年为59%,日本1984年为6.6%,苏联1983年为63%。我国于1981,1985年按万分之五比例进行了51万人的抽样调查,男性吸烟率为61%。另据广东省卫生防疫站进行的3万人的调查,吸烟率城市男性为63.51%,农村为67.12%。
Cigarettes were first made by corn leafs of South American Indians, spread to France and Italy around 1842, reached China in the 1870s, and cigarettes first appeared in Shanghai in 1902. In the 1930s, where tobacco was rampant, the United States produced more than 8 billion cigarettes per year, a considerable portion of which was sold and sold in China.
