《四库全书总目提要·墨池琐录》引明代王世贞《国朝名贤遗墨跋》评盛明巴蜀文人杨慎曰:“慎以博学名世,书亦自负吴兴堂庑。”杨慎书法理论和实践上承赵孟頫,崇晋抑唐,尤重晋韵,力主复古。杨慎书法传世遗墨,真迹寥寥。而1982年在四川省铜梁县出土的杨慎《明故待封君南潈张公墓志铭》手书,具有较高的史学价值和书法文献学价值。基于历史文献,对此则手书的考释,有助于对杨慎的深入研究。
