Since the late 1980s, the cross-Strait economic relations have shown a trend of rapid growth and closer cooperation. At the end of 2001 and early 2002, the separate accessions of the Chinese mainland and Taiwan to the WTO mean the beginning of a new phase of the development of cross-Strait economic relations. Under the framework of WTO, the economic relations between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait are affected by economic globalization and will present two new trends of development on the basis of the existing ones: First, the relations between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait will change from quantity to qualitative change, that is, from complementary to interdependent; secondly, The integration of economic relations has put forward more substantive requirements for the integration of political relations.
