奥斯卡·王尔德以唯美主义理念著称于世,他的文化身份一直是外界关注的焦点之一。在其文学生涯中,他对中国人观念的转变是揭示其文化身份的关键,从以中国人为丑的贬低到以中国人为美的褒扬的转变,揭示了王尔德对自身爱尔兰性与英国性双重文化身份的思考和最终做出的选择。同样作为大英帝国中的他者,王尔德从中国人身上看到了自己文化身份的缩影。在对帝国主义的谴责中,他逐渐铸造了唯美主义之刃,向殖民主义者发起了进攻。
