A detailed analysis of the cathode process during the formation and growth of the titanium deposit on the wire screen basketin connection with a consideration of the current efficiency is given in the present paper. The equations describing the distributionof current densities, titanium ion concentration along the deposit layer and the equation of the theoretical current efficiency havebeen derived and discussed. On the basis of these equations and the experimental results of titanium electrolysis the reason andmechanism for loss of current has been ascertained to be attributed to the discharging of sodium and low valent sodium ions onthe outside layer of the cathode.
