The history of the Beijing Embassy District during the Republican Period can be roughly divided into three stages: The first stage (1911-1941) at which the Chinese Embassy in China set up the Office of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China for the Administration of Embassies and unified the administration of the embassy district. Both the Beijing government, the Nanjing National Government and the North China puppet regime established after the “July 7 Incident” have all admitted this. In the second phase (1941-1945), after the outbreak of the Pacific War, the Japanese occupied the embassy district of Beijing and controlled the administration of the Embassy. In 1943, Japan again handed over the Beijing embassy district “to China”, but in reality the embassy district was still under Japanese control. In the third stage (1945-1949), after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the Beijing embassy district was formally withdrawn, but there were some problems with the reception of the Kuomintang government.
