The increasing crude oil processing capacity and the diversification and poor quality of crude oil sources have led to more emphasis on crude oil blending, treatment and desalination technologies, while the use of heavy crude and high acid crude oil will affect these process operations. Solutions include improving blending planning and scheduling, compatibility testing, feedstock allocation, desalination equipment and chemical additives. Software development is the key to improving crude oil blending, with many companies providing solutions to optimize blending schedules for crude oil, monitoring blending process and predicting blending performance. Crude oil compatibility prediction and testing is another area of widespread concern for crude oil blending. The desalination research focuses on handling heavy crude oil and opportunity oil. New technologies to accurately measure the location of the oil / water interface are also emerging, including radiation, microwave, pressure-based and sonar technologies. It is becoming more and more popular to install static mixers upstream of electrostatic desalination plants. Researchers have also proposed the use of ultrasonic irradiation in the mixing process. Methods to reduce the consumption of washing water and to treat desalted wastewater have drawn the attention of all parties. The research focus is on ultrafiltration membranes for the purification of concentrated salt wastewater. Reverse demulsifiers are used to treat oil-containing concentrated salt wastewater upstream of a wastewater treatment plant, and it is likely to generate substantial profits by providing more varieties of multi-functional additive products.
