作家莫言的很多小说中都有“红”这个颜色,《红高粱》中的高粱地也独独用了红来修饰,结合中国的红色情节,体现出了自强不息,生机盎然,热情奔放的乡村情怀,其完全契合于中国传统思想文化。在视红色为邪恶,血腥的西方国度里,霍桑的《红字》却是独树一帜的,《红字》中的“红”摒弃了西方那固有的观念,表现了主人公对生命的热爱,以及对自我的追求。因此,在经济,政治,文化都迥然不同的背景下,时空也相差甚远的情况下,文学上的相互碰撞也会产生相似的火花。
