Australia, the sixth largest country in the world, is a economically developed country with an elderly population of about 12% of the total population. Australian law states that the national retirement age is 65 for men and 60 for women. The Australian government attaches great importance to the social welfare of the elderly. There are over 3,000 retirement institutions in the whole of Australia and over 100,000 elderly people enjoy their old age in the institutions. In recent years, in line with the development trend of pension services and the wishes of the elderly, the federal government has made strategic adjustments in its pension policy and established social welfare service policies for elders based on community care (ie home-based retirement services).
