Objective: To investigate the relationship between circulating endothelial progenitor cells (EPC) and platelet activation in patients with lower extremity arteriosclerotic occlusive disease. Methods: From October 2008 to July 2010, 31 patients with arteriosclerotic occlusive disease of lower extremity were diagnosed. Thirty healthy subjects were selected as the healthy control group in the same period. The levels of platelet-activating factor (PAF) and thromboxane B2 (TXB2) in all the subjects were measured. The level of EPC in peripheral blood was measured by flow cytometry. Results: The levels of PAF and TXB2 in lower extremity arteriosclerosis obliterans group were significantly higher than those in control group, and the levels of circulating EPC were significantly lower than those in control group (all P <0.05). PAF and TXB2 levels in lower extremity arteriosclerotic occlusive disease were significantly lower than those in control group Were negative correlation (r = -0.410, r = -0.374, P <0.05). Conclusion: In patients with lower extremity arteriosclerotic occlusive disease, platelet activation is increased and circulating EPC level is decreased, which indicates that the ability of vascular repair in this patient is decreased.
