In the process of isolation and research of hepatitis virus, we try to organize the tissue culture of some animals in the northeast region, such as the kidney, testis, myocardial tissue, or monolayer, or tissue block culture of animals such as quail, fox and spotted deer. Not yet satisfied with the results. At the time, we also considered whether the serum of special animals was effective for other commonly used tissue cell cultures. In the summer of 1961, in the deer field of Longtan Mountain in Jilin Province, the deer disease was investigated and the chance of sawing antler was encountered. A large amount of deer serum was obtained and used as a substitute for cattle after filtration and inactivation. The serum was used for tissue culture. It was first tested on chick embryo monolayer cells, and the cell growth was felt to be good, not inferior to bovine serum. Later it was tested on human kidneys.
