东北民主联军铁道司令部所属护路军(铁道纵队前身),于1946年5月组建。这支部队从诞生那天起,先后转战于东北漫长的铁路线上,守护和抢修铁路、桥梁、水塔,确保铁路运输安全畅通,为我军在东北战场上的胜利,作出了重要贡献。 1946年5月,国民党军队向南满各地大举进攻,占领四平后沿中长铁路北犯。东北民主联军根据中央“变阵地战为运动战”的精神,决定放弃长春、吉林,撤至松花江以北。为掩护我军撤退,5月21日,北满军区领导要我动员3000名日本侨民做民工,并率领回民支队、松江军区工兵排和参谋
North China Democratic Coalition Rail Command belongs to the road protection army (railway column predecessor), was established in May 1946.
