Ni2P2S6 layered structure was synthesized by solid state reaction at room temperature and characterized by XRD and Raman spectroscopy. Compared with the traditional high-temperature solid-phase reaction method, this method has the advantages of fast reaction, low energy consumption and homogeneous product. The results of TG-DTA show that the final product of thermal oxidation of Ni2P2S6 in air is Ni2P2O7, and the intermediate state may be the metastable phase of Ni2P2O6
