可能没有一部小说像《悲惨世界》一样受到影视的青睐:从1907年拍的默片,到不久前在国内上映的同名电影,《悲惨世界》已经有了不下三十个电影版本。我们可以不动脑筋地推论:伟大作家终究是伟大作家,他不需要借助其他更具感官效果的艺术形式来推销自己,而是其他更具感官效果的艺术形式需要借助他的作品来言说。因此,我用这样一种方式阅读雨果:通过《悲惨世界》去阅读雨果,在雨果虚构的故事里体察这位伟大作家的悲悯、理想与爱。历史会终结,生命永不止息,而善与恶的博弈,也是永不止息,唯一的安慰或许是重温一遍雨果关于人性的简单梦想:择善固执。
No novel may be as popular as the “Les Miserables”: from silent films taken in 1907 to films of the same name released in the country not long ago, there have been no fewer than thirty film editions of Les Miserables. We can safely assume that great writers, after all, great writers, do not need to promote themselves through other, more sensual, artistic forms, but that other more sensual artistic forms need to be represented by his work. So I read Hugo in such a way as to read Hugo through Les Miserables and observe the compassion, ideals and love of this great writer in Hugo’s fictional story. History will end, life will never cease, and the game between good and evil will never stop. The only consolation may be a review of Hugo’s simple dream about human nature: choosing good and stubborn.
