在利用多模CO2激光器进行材料加工时,精确地知道激光束的角发散度是十分重要的。利用单模激光器可在聚焦激光束的焦斑上获得非常理想的强度分布。在此情况下,焦斑上的强度分布相当于高斯曲线。由于CO2激光器发射的10.6微米波长是在红外光谱区域,所以必须利用非直接测量法。一种简单的技术是用激光束加热石棉板。按照光束截面上的强度分布,石棉板不同程度地发光。但是这种方法的分辨本领很不好,它几乎不能测定强度的变化。此外,这种技术只能用于较高的功率密度(2至5瓦/厘米2)中。
