Located at the county seat of Jixian under the jurisdiction of Tianjin,the Dule Temple is noted for its wonderful wooden structure and Buddhist carvings.Little attention has been given to its murals due to the mediocrity of the only visible pictures of the late Qing Dynasty at the major gate of the temple.The renovation of the Hall of Bodhisattva in1972,however,unveils the superb murals of the Yuan Dynasty hitherto covered under the later coat of the wall.The present essay details the discovˉery and research of the murals and by doing so celebrates the millennial of the temple.
