The Ammunitions Authority of the United Kingdom Defense Research Agency and the Welfare United States Air Force Wright Laboratory will conduct a 27-month exploratory collaborative research project to develop an advanced warhead / seeker integrated system for air-to-air missiles. Such a system would allow air-to-air missiles to be used not only to attack enemy aircraft, but also as self-defense weapons for fighter aircraft to deal with enemy weapons similar to what the United States calls “speculative surface-to-air missiles.” Programmable Integrated Weapon Components (PIOS) will use “guidance-assisted fuses.” Such a fuse can be missile seeker data (angle
