The breakdown strength, which is a fundamental parameter to characterize insulating materials, is always used as an important indicator to judge insulating property in engineering applications. The breakdown strength of polymer nanocomposites is related to the properties of nano-additives, such as doping concentration, particle size and surface treatment. In this paper, nano-SiO2/LDPE composites with different doping concentration, particle size and particle surface treatment are made to test the breakdown strength under AC, positive DC and negative DC voltage, respectively. The test connection circuit is shown in Fig. 1.
