美国自然主义文学以厚重的社会责任感,直观临摹并镜面呈现了从实证出发与实用融合,再现斯宾塞社会达尔文主义的“美国梦”内涵的逻辑演进与幻灭的真实面相。“美国梦”的破灭折射出的是“恒久的不可知的力”对人的控制与异化,但究其根源,“恒久的不可知的力”既非恒久也非不可知,实为资本逻辑无限演绎的结果。在对待“美国梦”的内涵与破灭根源的问题上,还要注意避免两种倾向。
