鄂州是改革开放以来组建的中等城市,建市以来经济建设和各项社会事业发展很快,档案事业也不例外,也有一个长足的发展。1989年建起了面积为2053平方米的市档案馆,馆藏档案5万余卷,档案门类已达到12种,其中已被修复的民国档案1067卷,鄂州新旧社会的变迁,都能在市档案馆找到真实的佐证。全市副县级以上的局级单位都有比较规范的档案室,保存了建市以来十几万卷的档案资料。可以说,鄂州档案事业的发展已初具规模。
