A Corning Incorporated is marketed under the tradename Corguide ~ R SMF / DS for dispersion-shifted single-mode optical waveguides and has conducted repeaterless transmission tests over 200 km at medium transmission rates. The trial by the British Telecom Research Laboratory, the light source used is a commercially available 1550nm multi-longitudinal mode laser. The system and raw data are elaborated in an article titled “Experiments on 220km and 233km Transmission at 140Mbit / s and 34Mbit / s for Low-Loss Dispersion-Shifted Optical Fiber.” L. C. Blank, L. Bickers and S. D. Walker at British Telecom Laboratory, author of the article, presented at a conference following a deadline for the February Optical Fiber Conference (OFC’85). After many tests, the transmission distance of more than 200km, the signal quality is still excellent. Error-free transmissions were obtained at 220km (140Mbit / s) and 233km (34Mbit / s) with margins of 0.9dB and 3.7dB, respectively.
