Temporomandibular joint sounds are considered to be one of the most common indications of patients with TMJ disorders, but this articulation is also common in asymptomatic subjects. Temporomandibular joint recordings are only meaningful if the articulation of the normal subject can be distinguished from the articulation of the patient. The purpose of this article is to compare the amplitude and frequency spectra of articulated sounds between symptomatic and asymptomatic subjects and to analyze the distribution of joint sounds over different frequency ranges. Materials and Methods Forty-nine patients with temporomandibular joint disorders were identified by auscultation, including 23 males and 26 females, aged 20-63 years. Only temporomandibular joint tone without other symptoms of the subject
