Since the Ming and Qing dynasties, there has been a “term question” about the translation of God’s Christian religion. After the 19th century, the controversy between Britain and the United States, “God”, and “God” resumed. This article begins with a review of the background of the nineteenth-century British and American missionaries’ divergences in translation of Christian Gods, and then focuses on a “Battle of the Holy Number” in the Universal Declaration of 1878-1879. This article attempts to discuss the process and significance of this translation debate in the field of postmodern textual politics and discourse practice.
