Despite the continuous decline in heart disease mortality, medical researchers are still seeking new ways to detect, treat and prevent this first-leading cause of death in the United States. At the Scientific Annual Meeting of the American Heart Association, the experts discussed some of the new developments below. Exercise Testing Three weeks after a heart attack, a standard exercise test will allow doctors to predict the risk of the next attack, identify which patients have a low risk of seizure, do not need medication or surgical treatment, and be able to safely resume their work. Stanford University School of Medicine conducted a 10-year study of 1,000 men who survived a heart attack. In patients who can complete the treadmill test (about 50%), the next attack may die
