It is estimated that the real GDP growth rate of member countries of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in 2002 was only 1%, unchanged from 2001. In such circumstances, finding a growth point in the chemical industry is a difficult task, especially during the first six months of this year (with a forecast growth rate of 0.7% in the first half of the year). However, the OECD expects a rebound in the second half of the year to jolt the growth rate to 2.9%, which in turn indicates that the situation will be better in 2003 and its growth rate is estimated at 3.2%
